Daytona talks

This return of Villeneuve to the GP3R would not have been possible without the essential contribution of Festidrag Développement and its many partners, including Prolon Controls.

The first talks with Villeneuve began in Florida last February when the 51-year-old driver was preparing to take part in the 500-mile Daytona. He became the first Canadian driver to finish in the Top 20 of this annual classic.

“Villeneuve was looking for two motorhomes for his stay in Daytona,” Martin D’Anjou said. With my numerous contacts, I was able to find them and thanked them for my efforts.

“From then on, a good relationship was established between him and me,” said the president of Festidrag. At the time, our discussions focused on possible participation in GP3R and I quickly realized that I was very excited about this idea. Finally, we came to an agreement that many fans will like.

“It is certain that a renowned driver has his requirements, especially economic, but we have reached a compromise,” says D’Anjou. I must say that it was Quebec companies, for the most part, that agreed to support the adventure and I am very grateful to them. »

“I also wanted to make sure I gave him a top-notch car,” D’Anjou said. With Dumoulin, Villeneuve will be able to express himself at his fair value. Especially because the name Dumoulin is magical in Trois-Rivières. It’s their circuit. “The team, based in Yamachiche, will have exceptionally four cars in Mauricie. In addition to Villeneuve, there will obviously be their full-time driver and three-time NASCAR Pinty’s Series champion Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, as well as his brother Jean-François, whose only presence this year will be.

The quartet will be completed by Louis-Philippe Montour, engaged in road circuit events in 2022.

Private tests in Mirabel

Arrested in Europe, Villeneuve will not be in Trois-Rivières for this morning’s press conference. However, he will answer questions from journalists by video conference.

He will arrive in Quebec on August 2 in the late afternoon and the next morning will take part in a private rehearsal session at the ICAR circuit in Mirabel, to which debutant Jean-Philippe Bergeron, this promising young man, is also invited. pilot associated with Prolon Controls, who will make his first rounds in Trois-Rivières next month.

Villeneuve’s return to Trois-Rivières comes 30 years after his first race at Mauricie. In 1992 he reached the third step of the Atlantic Formula podium.

A year later, he was forced to retire after an accident with his teammate (player’s team) Claude Bourbonnais. From memory, this is the last time the two Jacques clashed in the GP3R. The uncle was second in this Atlantic Formula race.

In rallycross

The last presence of Jacques, the son of Gilles, in the GP3R dates back to 2018 in the Rallycross World Championship where he could not participate in the grand final, as in 2014 as well.

In three appearances at the NASCAR Pinty’s Series in Trois-Rivières, Villeneuve recorded his best result in 2013 when he finished third. His uncle will take part in the two tests in the Modified Legends category, he will return to the GP3R after a seven-year absence.

Another Festidrag Développement partner is taking part in the GP3R: the NASCAR Pinty’s Series event, unveiled on Sunday, will henceforth be called the “60 laps Rousseau Metal”.
