The FIA ​​is taking safety measures against porpoise

On the occasion of the Canadian Grand Prix, the FIA ​​has launched a technical directive to help teams regulate porpoise and preserve the health of riders. This is what we know.

  1. A more detailed examination of the floor, both from the point of view of its design and the wear and tear observed.
  2. The definition of a value, based on the vertical acceleration of the car, which will give a quantitative limit to the acceptable level of vertical oscillations. The FIA ​​is still analyzing the exact mathematical formula for this measure and Formula 1 teams have been asked to help with this process.

During the 3rd free training sessionall pilots will be carried during 3 laps to roll at a constant speed on the different lines of the Gilles Villeneuve circuit. The FIA ​​will take all cars as a point of comparison set a possible height limit to the detriment of performance, with the aim of preserving the health of the pilots.

These measurements take place in a short-term process. Pending further decisions, the FIA ​​will convene the teams for a technical meeting to consider other solutions in the medium term.
