In 2016, Sergio Garcia won his country’s Pre-Moto3 Championship and began his motorcycle career. A performance that sees him rise in level, up to the Moto3 junior world championship. The Spaniard quickly won with a victory in Catalonia, the day after his first podium on the same course (3rd). Habitual without any other brilliance, the resident of the Junior Team Estrella Galicia finished seventh in the general.
Sergio Garcia is revealed next season. Author of four victories, he saw his progress slightly hampered by a leg injury. Finally second of the championship, N ° 11 is surpassed by Raul Fernandez. The 15-year-old is already ahead of very good future drivers, such as Celestino Vietti, Ai Ogura and Pedro Acosta.
In 2019, Estrella Galicia logically established it in Moto3. A learning season where the novice ends up in the most beautiful way. Surprisingly second in Malaysia in the penultimate match, Sergio García got his first victory in the world championship at the Grand Prix at home in Valencia. Unfortunately, his 2020 campaign is not going so well. Very irregular, the Spaniard, however, climbed the podium twice during the double blow on the Ricardo Tormo circuit, in front of his relatives.
The young prodigy decides to join the GASGAS Aspar Team for the 2021 season. A winning bet as the native of Burriana finds a second wind in Moto3. Sergio Garcia won three races (France, Catalonia and Austria) and finished six times in the top 3. A fall during the free practice of the Grand Prix of the Americas has forced him to give up the rest of the weekend and the next in Misano. Recovered from a kidney problem but out of the title fight, the Spaniard finished 3rd in the championship behind Pedro Acosta and Dennis Foggia.
Current season: 1st in the championship (182 points)
Staying with the team, the resident of the GASGAS Aspar Team reaches the skin of one of the contenders for the title in 2022. His second place behind Andrea Migno at the start of the season showed that the Spaniard already he was on pace. At the foot of the podium in Indonesia, Sergio Garcia opened his victory counter in Argentina. The 19-year-old rider returned to the podium in Portugal and Mugello.
Despite being at the top of the standings, Sergio Garcia must continue to win races. Izan Guevara is just 3 points away from him overall. His teammate is going at an infernal pace of three wins and six podiums in the last six races. Sergio Garcia, meanwhile, finished third on two occasions, at Sachsenring and Assen. The podiums will not be enough to win the title; the Spaniard is aware of this and will do everything possible to achieve it after four years in the discipline.
Why can you claim Moto2?
Although he has several Moto3 seasons within his reach, Sergio Garcia is still a young rider. Some will say it took two years to succeed and there is some truth in that opinion. However, when the Spaniard found a bike that suited him, he immediately distinguished himself by playing the lead roles. If he could afford his first world title this season, the Spaniard’s career could take off.
With the support of KTM (via GasGas), Sergio Garcia will surely benefit from the help of the Austrians to find him a place in the higher categories. If not, others will contact him and a Moto2 contract for 2023.
