What you may have missed between last night and this morning

1. Athletics – Worlds: McLaughlin smashes his world record

You have to rub your eyes to believe it. The time difference obliges, of course. But it is intrinsically that the world record set by Sydney McLaughlin is hardly believable. Titled overnight in Eugene over the 400m hurdles – a second and a half ahead of silver medalist Femke Bol – she lowered the benchmark from 51″41 to 50″68. delirious

The American runner had already broken the world record in her favorite discipline, during the Olympic Games, last summer in Tokyo (video below), before bettering it this year. But Karsten Warholm’s legendary victory had slightly overshadowed his own. This time, the record fell “only” among the ladies, and with a bang.

2. Athletics – World Championships: Lavillenie in the final, Lamote eliminated

Other results to remember, at these world championships: reigning double Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Michael Norman were crowned in the 400m. Kelsey-Lee Barber won in the javelin. For the French contingent, we highlight the qualification of Renaud Lavillenie for the pole vault final (same as Mondo Duplantis), that of the 4×100 (H) with the 2nd time of the series. On the other hand, Rénelle Lamote missed the shot in the middle of the 800 m.

Last French torchbearer in the 4x100m, Jimmy Vicaut took part in qualifying the Tricolors for the final, in Eugene.

The quartet defeated Italy in the final of the epee team event (45-42). France retains the world title in the discipline, after the Games’ hiccup (elimination in the quarters).
