Two new teams and five new ones
The grid is getting denser for the new season of Motorcycle Grand Prix
The 2021 season of the MotoGP World Championship has just ended and the International Motorcycling Federation has already revealed the main lines for the next one. Following the distribution of the provisional schedule a few weeks ago, the list of registered drivers has now been published. The least we can say is that there will be changes.
In fact, 2022 will be marked by the increase in the number of motorcycles on the tracks with the arrival of two additional teams. From 22 riders registered throughout the season, we will go to 24.
The first team to add its name to the list is that of Valentino Rossi, the VR46 Racing Team led by Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi, who have just left Moto2, at the Ducati Desmosedici GP. This team succeeds Avintia which disappears from the first category. The other team comes from the division between Aprilia and Gresini, the manufacturer now secures his MotoGP team alone, still with Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales, while the structure of Gresini Racing MotoGP is again independent and also goes to Ducati with Enea Bastianini recruited from Avintia and Fabio Di Giannantonio, another Moto2 debutant.
As you may have noticed, this MotoGP 2022 grid will have a strong Italian accent both in terms of the number of riders, 7 representatives, and the number of bikes with 8 Desmosedici registered. This is two to four times more than other manufacturers … which could facilitate access to the title of manufacturer of Ducati, already acquired in 2021.
Newcomers will also include Moto2 champion Remy Gardner and runner-up Raul Fernandez who arrived at Tech3, as well as Darryn Binder landed directly on Moto3’s Withu Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team (ex-Petronas). to succeed Valentino Rossi.
On the French side, Fabio Quartararo will have a lot to do to defend his title on the handlebars of the official Yamaha M1 while Johann Zarco continues with Pramac Racing. There are no new French representatives in the other categories, however, as Lorenzo Fellon remains the only Frenchman involved in Moto3.
And after a great 2021 prediction season, we promise you an equally exciting 2022 betting season!
