Portugal promises a great race as Saturday’s action saw new names hungry for success and big determined to defend their top spots.
The first round of the second half of the FET JuniorGP Finetwork World Championship has begun, on the roller coaster of the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal, which hosts the 5th race of the 25th season of the championship. A sunny Saturday was a great day of action to start the weekend before Sunday’s races. Adrià Cruces (Cradle of Champions) achieved an amazing pole position in JuniorGP ™, Lukas Tulovic (Liqui Moly Intact GP Junior Team) continued its unbeaten streak in the European Moto2 Championship ™ 2022 and Dodo Boggio (Aspar Junior Team) achieved his first pole position in the Hawkers European Talent Cup.
An amazing tour forAdrià Cruces (Cradle of Champions) allowed the Valencian not only to reach his first pole position, but also his first first row in JuniorGP ™. After two intense qualifying sessions, it was a quick burst of time in the final moments of the day that decided Sunday’s starting grid. With a last minute push, Adrià Cruces posted a 1’48.182 moments before the checkered flag, hitting the paddock and stealing the show with only 0.089 s ahead. Syarifuddin Azman (SIC Racing). The latter matched his trajectory by finishing in 2nd place, which puts him right in the middle of the front row for Sunday’s race. After completing a reference lap in Q2, Harrison Voight (SIC 58) spent most of the session in the lead, before dropping to 3rd position in the final moments of the session. The Australian returns to the front row, his last top 3 in the standings going back to the first round of the year.
At the top of the second line of the grid, Luca Lunetta (AC Racing Team) misses just one place in the front row. Although laps were canceled during Q2, the Italian secured his first second row of the year in 4th position. Angel Piqueras (Team Estrella Galicia 0.0) was in the middle of the second row in 5th position after setting a time just 0.004 seconds behind Lunetta. The second line is completed by the man to beat José Antonio Rueda (Equip Estrella Galicia 0.0), which is in the front row for the first time this season. The championship leader had an almost perfect qualifying record for the weekend, and has started all the races between the top two finishers. The Spaniard will have his hands full in Sunday’s race while the whole field prepares for the battle.
Alex Gourdon (Leopard Impala Junior Team) will start on the 28th.
European Moto2 Championship™:
It was a fierce all-day battle for the Moto2 Ech Ech class. With a difference of only 0.071 seconds between the top 3, championship leader Lukas Tulovic he got his 5th pole of the season. Despite the group chasing him, Tulovic’s immense form in the standings has seen him take pole in all tests of the 2022 Moto2 ™ Ech season so far. Only 0.020 s from German, Àlex Escrig, 2021 Action Champion, achieved his third front row of the year. Continuing with his hot streak, the debutante feeling Senna Agius (Promoracing) completes the first row, and will start the two races on Sunday from 3rd place.
Walking winners European Talent Cup:
The intrigue continues in the Hawkers European Talent category, as the man of the moment, Dodo Boggio (Aspar Junior Team), achieved pole position. After his double victory in Jerez, the unexpected leader of the championship sent a message to the peloton, as the favorite of the championship, Joel Esteban (Aspar Junior Team), back from illness. Esteban lines up just behind Boggio in the middle of the front row, perfect for the battle for the championship starting on Sunday. The first line is completed with Brian Uriarte (Team Estrella Galicia 0.0), the young man looking for his first victory in the Hawkers ETC.
french side, Guillem Planques (First Bike Academy) ranked 14th, Enzo Bellon (BS Racing) 21st i Matteo Roman (Tecmas Racing Team) recovered from the last chance race, unlike Leandro Quintans (Media system) i Yannis Magnier (French team).
