Formula 1 | Alpine F1 climbs to 4th position in the Constructors’ Championship

Alpine F1 Team finished fourth in the Constructors’ Championship after getting both cars in the points at the end of their home race, the French Grand Prix at Circuit Paul-Ricard. Fernando Alonso achieved a superb sixth position and Esteban Ocon eighth.

With four units in his pocket, Esteban adds his first points in Formula 1 at home, after the third attempt. Starting tenth, he went under the checkered flag in eighth. Fernando also had a good Sunday, finishing seventh in a row in the points, thanks in large part to a first lap pass in Lando Norris’ McLaren that proved decisive in his pursuit of sixth place. The Spaniard has achieved a new record in Formula 1, the most completed laps: 18,672.

Esteban received a five-second penalty after colliding with Yuki Tsunoda on the first lap. But after serving at his only pit stop, the Frenchman showed patience to close the conceded deficit and score points thanks to a second-choice overtake that saw him out of Daniel Ricciardo’s McLaren at Turn 10.

Both drivers have started strongly from seventh and tenth on the grid, with Fernando and Esteban moving up to sixth and eighth respectively. The safety car that intervened on lap 18 after Charles Leclerc’s crash allowed most of the drivers to enter the pit lane. Fernando was first to put on the hard tyres, followed closely by Esteban who, after observing his penalty at the end of his pit stop, went out behind Ricciardo, who he had overtaken on lap seven thanks to to a good maneuver at curve 8. .

Fernando eventually crossed the finish line in sixth position, managing to keep Norris at bay. For his part, after being patient, Esteban demonstrated surgical precision to steal eighth from Ricciardo with seven laps to go, after a tidy maneuver on the outside of turn 10.

The team now has 93 points in the constructors’ championship ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the last race before the summer break, next week.

“We are very happy to get a good result with both cars at home,” comments Laurent Rossi, CEO of Alpine.

“Especially as it allows us to now take fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship which, it must be said, is well deserved. It was fantastic to race at Circuit Paul-Ricard in front of such passionate fans. Thanks to them for their fantastic support during all weekend.”

“On the track, we knew we had a good chance to do well with both cars. So we needed a good start, which we got, and then well-managed races by both the team and the team. Our pilots Fernando did a great job of bringing out the best in Lando [Norris] at the beginning. He then managed his race brilliantly to score all eight points to take sixth place.”

“Esteban also started well but was penalized for his collision with Yuki [Tsunoda] in the first round. He had to keep his head down to regain the lead he had built up on the track, and his patience and ability to make the right decisions was crucial in getting past the second McLaren, Daniel’s. [Ricciardo]for the eighth position”.

“Now our goal is clear: we have to do everything we can to stay fourth in the Constructors’ Championship. The race is on, as we did at home in France this weekend, for the rest of the season.”
