finally new stuff in 2023!

Almost a year ago, we learned a little more about Stellantis’ future projects, and in particular about part of the product plan. As for Fiat, it had been specified without further details that it would return to segment B in 2023. In an interview recently granted to the Italian media Correre della Sera, Carlos Tavares, head of the aforementioned group, has shown a little. more talking about it: “Next year with Fiat, there will be at least two new models in the B segment” (Renault Clio or Captur or, in Fiat, ex-Punto and 500X). He also clarified that the presentation of the two vehicles in question is planned for the beginning of 2023.

New Fiat? What’s new?

Unfortunately, the leader of Stellantis says no more. But it is enough to imagine what can await us. The first model should be an SUV. Will it be a replacement for the 500X or a close cousin of the 100% electric baby Jeep (the same derivative of the 2008 Peugeot) that the American manufacturer has been teasing at regular intervals for some time now? Logic would dictate that it is rather the first option that Fiat opts for as its urban SUV dates from 2014 (!). Despite this, the latter has just been redesigned and even benefits from some interesting new features (open-top version, hybrid engine). Indeed, it is hard to see Fiat ending its career “prematurely” so to speak. Also, since electrification is central to the group’s strategy, the context requires it, ultimately it would seem quite logical to add a new zero-emissions model to the 500X. There, it is the second option that is essential, a twin of the aforementioned Jeep. When you think about it, this approach already exists in the Fiat range with the new electric 500 which hasn’t retired its thermal alter ego. On the one hand, an all-new battery-powered vehicle, on the other, the 500X for those who aren’t ready to go all-electric. In any case, it is almost certain that this Fiat vehicle will be produced at the Tichy plant, the former FCA group announced at the end of 2020 that it will modernize this establishment to produce three new Alfa Romeos, Fiat and Hybrid and electric. jeeps And it says it’s SUV segment B. CQFD?

It remains to be guessed what could be the other vehicle that gets to be placed in segment B. There are several possible tracks here as well. Being the dean of the brand, the Panda looks all appointed. But here it is, it’s a mini-city car, technically it belongs to the lower segment (A). By changing generations, will the city car grow to the point of changing categories? It is a possibility. Here’s another one, Fiat could revive the defunct Punto. The latter could be based on the same technical basis as the Peugeot 208 and the Opel Corsa, but also the future Lancia Ypsilon that will arrive in 2024 and even return to France.

It’s not too early!

If the electric 500 sells well, it can’t run the store on its own. Its thermal equivalent is starting to lose ground (in France, for example, its registrations fell by 34.6% in the first 6 months of 2022), which could be more logical for a model that is not touched up since of 2015 and which actually dates back to… 2007! The 500X, as we specified above, is not very young anymore. So it can’t do much against the competition. As for the Tipo, it only exists in the Cross version and prices are affected (minimum €23,490 today). As a result, their sales have halved in France and Europe. In fact, whatever model completes the range next year is urgent!
