The platoon at the top of the Coll des Mosses

🚩 the getaway has just crossed the second ascent of the day (2nd category). Frenchman Pierre Latour (TotalEnergies) led a long sprint. He took the lead and pocketed five points. Behind him, Hugo Houle (Israel – Premier Tech) and Simon Geschke (Cofidis) finished second and third. They take three and two points respectively.

3:16 pm

Florian Sénéchal in difficulty

🏁 86 km: Like several runners, the French champion, who is celebrating his 29th birthday today, falls behind the peloton, led by the United Arab Emirates. Tadej Pogacar’s teammate Marc Hirschi also has problems.

3:13 pm

Marc Madiot, manager of Groupama-FDJ, at the microphone of France Télévisions

The new guest is the covid-19. Before I worry about the course of today’s stage, I want to know if we can continue the race. It’s hard for me to project myself right now. We had great difficulties at the Tour de Suisse (mid-June). There is a disconnect between the public and the teams, which is logical. The virus is spreading rapidly. I look at the numbers every day. I would like to go as far as Paris. Maybe I’m obsessed, but I’m not silent.

2:59 p.m.

The Tour de France peloton is moving at high speed today. Since the start of the stage, the average speed has been 45.8 km / h. This can be explained mainly by the fact that the rupture took a long time to take shape. And with all 21 riders at the helm, the UAE is leading a great pace at the helm of the peloton.

2:57 p.m.

🟡 Rigoberto Uran has a yellow card

🏁 95.5 km: the Colombian pilot (EF Education) is present at the getaway. The latter has an advantage of 3’25 ”. Uranus is 16th overall, 3’24 behind the yellow Tadej Pogacar jersey. Therefore, he is practically the leader of the Tour de France. But the United Arab Emirates, the Slovenian formation, is printing a great pace at the head of the peloton to narrow that gap.

2:53 p.m.

The getaway attacking the second ascent of the day

🚩 The first 21 men are at the foot of the Col des Mosses (13.3 km, 4.1%), classified in the second category. The peloton is marked at 3’20 ”.

2:45 p.m.

The United Arab Emirates is setting a high pace

🏁 105 km: at the head of the peloton, the formation of the yellow jersey sets the pace. And it’s very fast. The platoon is in a single row. The UAE does not want the leadership of the rupture to escape. The presence of Rigoberto Uran in front is a danger. The Colombian (EF Education) is 16th overall, 3’24 ” from the yellow jersey. For now, the distance between the peloton and the breakaway stagnates at around three minutes.

🏁 116 km: The escape of 21 runners stabilizes their leadership. It’s 2’30 ”. As a reminder, Warren Barguil and Thibaut Pinot are part of it.

2:03 p.m.

Intermediate sprints

🏁 135 km: The getaway has just passed the intermediate sprint. Inevitably it was the green T-shirt Wout Van Aert (Jumbo Visma) who took the lead. Expand your leadership in this ranking.

1:59 p.m.

The pursuing group returns to the escape

🏁 138 km: The green jersey group Wout Van Aert returned to the run. They are now 21 at the top, including the two Frenchmen Thibaut Pinot and Warren Barguil. They are 1’30 ” ahead of the peloton.

1:49 pm

A group of pursuers has been formed

🏁 144 km: The fifteen riders are now 55 seconds ahead of the yellow jersey platoon. The escape of the day? A group of pursuers stood between the breakaway and the yellow jersey group, including Wout Van Aert.

1:46 pm

A small tribute to Charlie Chaplin on the Tour

1:43 pm

Pinot throws the break

🏁 149 km: we start a new climb, many runners are in the duration. It looks like a first getaway is forming with Thibaut Pinot at the controls! Fugitive runners are 18 seconds ahead of the yellow jersey group. It’s about fifteen.

1:34 pm

The platoon crosses the coast of Bellevue

🚩 At the head of the first climb of the day (4.3 km, 4%), Castroviejo (Ineos-Grenadiers) takes the lead and takes a point in the ranking of the best climber. At the moment, there is no escape format. At the front of the pack, Thibaut Pinot showed the tip of his nose.Do you want to attack by the Groupama-FDJ driver?

1:27 pm

🏁 158 km: in the first ascent of the day, the tempo, at the head of the peloton, is given by the Ineos-Grenadiers formation.

1:23 pm

The platoon is still together

🏁 162 km: after 30 km, no escape has managed to take off. This could be done on the first ascent of the day, the approaching Côte de Bellevue (4.3 km, 4%).

1:17 pm

Michael Woods fell

🏁 166 km: the Canadian (Israel-Premier Tech) participated in the fall. He has his shirt torn on his back. But he got back on his bike.

1:14 pm

Fall in the peloton

🏁 170 km: a handful of runners fell in the middle of the peloton, passing a roundabout. Frenchman Tony Gallopin (Trek-Segafredo), Neison Powless (EF Education) and Maximilian Schachmann (Bora), among others, fell to the ground. But they all left. More fear than harm, a priori.

1:07 pm

The platoon reunited

🏁 174 km: Mads Pedersen takes over the peloton.

1:04 pm

A man takes off

🏁 177 km: at the moment, only the Dane Mads Pedersen (Trek Segafredo) has taken a few meters ahead of the peloton.

The tension was palpable this morning before the start

Warren Barguil, ants on your legs?

This day could suit the Breton climber Warren Barguil, from the Arkéa-Samsic team, who hopes to be able to escape to play his luck in front. However, he admits that since the start of the Tour de France, making the right forays involves some luck.

12:54 pm

The platoon again

Attempts to flee so far have been unsuccessful. Now the platoon is grouped. But it always moves ahead.

The real start is given!

🏁 192 km: the first offensives are launched at the head of the peloton. Many runners will try to grab their heels. The profile of the scenario corresponds to a break.

The fictitious start has been given!

12:32 h.

Three non-runners this morning

In addition to Guillaume Martin, positive for Covid-19, two more drivers did not come out this morning: Ruben Guerreiro (EF Education Post) and Kasper Asgeen (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl). The Portuguese, best climber and winner of a stage of the Tour of Italy 2020, feels very tired but has tested negative for Covid-19. The Dane has a sore left knee and prefers not to make it worse, not having been in very good condition since the start of the Tour.

The profile of the stage, first in the Alps

Guillaume Martin, positive for Covid-19, at the microphone of France Télévisions

So far so good. He had avoided falls during this first week of the Tour. I came to a terrain where I knew I would have fun. But the current situation has decided otherwise. I had a very mild sore throat. I went to see the doctor to do an antigen test which tested positive. For me, it was a test of control to reassure me. I hope we caught it in time so as not to contaminate the equipment. At the level of emotions, we go from top to bottom.

12:25 p.m.

Cédric Vasseur, manager of Cofidis, at the microphone of France Télévisions

We were waiting for the last minute if Guillaume had to start, but the tests were bad. The ASO protocol has been applied. This morning they did a PCR test on him, we just received the results. Guillaume Martin could not take the start of the stage. It’s a Covid-19 startup that should still gain momentum. It poses a danger to other competitors, team members and especially to their health. It’s harder, because I had good feelings. We have a Damocles sword permanently over our heads. Hopefully there are no other cases. All runners will be tested tonight.

The Covid-19 hits the peloton again

Hello everyone and welcome to this live broadcast to follow the 9th stage between Aigle and Châtel, 192.9 km.

This is the first real day on the mountain, two days after a great first moment at the top with the arrival at the Super Planche des Belles Filles and the victory of Tadej Pogacar with the yellow jersey. On Saturday, in Lausanne, it was Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) who won in a strong position at the end of the hill climb to the Olympic Stadium.

This Sunday it is the adventurers who should have their chance to express themselves, with a race day where three second and first category ascents are listed. The most daring will be able to endure a stage where the final will be complicated, with the ascent to the Pas de Morgins, whose summit is 9.8 kilometers from the finish, and a final climb to Pré-la-Joux in Châtel , is not listed.

What should liven up the stage is the fight for the polka dot t-shirt. With 26 points to collect for leading all the climbs, the classification of the best climber could well go back and Magnus Cort Nielsen, if not present at the head of the race, could well lose the tunic he wears since the end of the 2nd stage.

The general classification should not change too much, although attacks may occur to try to destabilize Tadej Pogacar, who has so far been imperial. But the big maneuvers should start on Tuesday, towards Megève.
